Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points shown as effective in the treatment of specific health concerns. These points have been mapped by the Chinese over a period of nearly 3000 years. Recently, electromagnetic research has confirmed their locations.
Traditional acupuncture is based on the ancient Chinese theories of the the flow of Qi (Energy) through distinct meridians or pathways that cover and innervate the body somewhat like the nerves and blood vessels do. According to ancient Chinese theory, acupuncture allows Qi to flow to areas where it is deficient and away form areas where its is Excess. In this way, acupuncture regulates and restores the harmonious energetic balance of the body. The World Health Organization has said that acupuncture is suitable for treating the following:
1) Ear, nose and throat disorders including toothaches, pain after tooth extraction, earaches, sinus inflammation and nasal inflamation.
2) Repiratory disorders includng asthma in children or adults
3) Gastrointestinal disorders including gastrointestinal tract problems, hiccups, inlfamation of the stomach, chronic duodenal ulcers, chronic inflamtion of the colon, constipation, diarrhea, dystentery.
4) Eye disorders including inflammtion fo the conjuctiva, inflammation for the retina, nearsightedness and cataracts.
5) Nervous system and muscular disorders including headaches, migrains, facial paralysis or nerve pain, weakness following a stroke, inflamation of nerve endings, bed wetting, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, sciatica, low back pain and osteoarthritis.
Acupunture has been used for millenia in China to treat many other probles including knee pain, sprains and strains,and most gynecological complaints.
